A Summer Night in Petoskey

Sometimes I wish that I could be in multiple places at once.  But this isn't unique - I mean, who else wants to be at home sleeping at the same time that they have to be at school.  Or, be at a party when they have to work?

I certainly do!  The reason that I brought this up is because I have a problem.  Anyone who has been to Petoskey, Michigan during the summer (or really, anytime) will understand me.  Although they might not have the same feelings as me, they would understand me.

The problem is that I have fallen head-over-heels in love with Petoskey.  The views of the bay, the quaint downtown, and the historic-ness of it only add to my obsession.  But I live four hours away.  In a town without gorgeous views of a bay, a less quaint downtown and no where near the amount of historical coolness that Petoskey has.  I mean c'mon, Ernest Hemingway didn't hang out in my town!

Railroad tracks running behind the town.

I'm no stranger to Petoskey.  Having family living there means that I have been seeing Petoskey for my entire life.  Maybe it just took a while for me to realize that Petoskey was right for me, and I was right for Petoskey.

Last weekend, my family and I took a trip up to Petoskey.  Finding ourselves with no plans on a Saturday evening, we decided to take a ride to downtown.

And it was disappointing.

There were about 5 shops open in the entire town.  On a Saturday night.  In the summer.  What kind of nonsense is this?

That fact didn't stop this fearless blogger from enjoying herself though.  We still got to visit a few places and take a stroll through the cool evening air.  It was perfect.

We stopped at American Spoon cafĂ© and gelato shop, mistakingly thinking that was the same store as the preserves/salsas/butters store (which was actually right next door). Even though we didn't buy anything, we still took a quick look around.

24 flavors of home-made deliciousness.  Heaven.

After that, we made our way over to next door, where we definitely made up for our lack of spending in the gelato shop.

There were flavors and flavors and flavors upon flavors to taste, love and buy.  They ranged from pumpkin butter to wild elderberry jelly to portobello mushroom relish. (And yes, we did get one of each of those.)

We filled ourselves up tasting (and loving) almost every single flavor.

Strolling around a little bit more, we found an art shop filled with creations from Northern Michigan artists.  Respecting their designs, I didn't take any pictures inside, but everything was so gorgeous!

The entrance to Northgoods.

Heading back to the car, we walked through the historic Gaslight district of town.

Hence, the gaslights!

Heading back to my boring-by-comparison town, I thought about how cool it would be to live in Petoskey - even just for a week.  But unfortunately, I have life here to tend to.  So, until next time, Petoskey!
